Basso at the top of the Ypres Rally
That Ypres's rally was a hard race, was something that everybody known. After this edition, which made famous "victims" during the 20 difficult special stages, even the most skeptics and not involved people, have to confirm it.
In the Belgian race, valid as second competition of the Tour European Rally 2017, Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai, on Hyundai I20 R5, have been protagonists getting a good sixth overall position and a great second place in the European standings.
After a close race, the driver proved once again to be able to compete with the strongest continental drivers, doing a second part of the race carefully, in order to get important points for the championship.
The BRC Gas Equipment crew is fantastic in the first part of the race and that allows the team to be in the top five. A small technical problem, forces the only Italian crew on the start, to retreat to the twelfth place. Thanks also to the excellent work of BRC team, Basso and Granai are able to make up important positions to achieve a more than satisfactory final result, that allows them to look to the future with more optimism.
At the bottom of the podium Giandomenico Basso is nevertheless pleased with his sixth participation at the Ypres Rally: "Also in this edition the race has been hard, but we were able to keep the championship leadership. We’re happy. We would have liked to push a little bit more, but we had to be careful in order not to prejudice the work done with BRC in this 2017. In the next race, we hope to improve even more the feeling with the car and return to the win.”
The European Rally Tour will return from 3rd to 5th August with the Portuguese event at the Madeira Rally.
